Reflecting on being care-experienced
“On the 5th of December, I met my foster carers who were going to look after me and my brothers. At first, I was nervous and unsure of the environment I had been dropped in. The first couple days were odd and I was anxious and worried about why we had been moved into this strangers’ home. But as the days went past, my anxieties and nerves died down and I started to relax, enjoy and embrace my new surroundings. I grew to know the people who were looking after me and my brothers and they were the nicest people I had ever met. Within no time I was at school and so were my brothers and we began to thrive again.
“This major change that I thought would have been the worst thing to happen had turned out to be one of the best things to happen to me. I went from being a shy, timid individual to someone who is confident enough to face any challenge that has crossed my path. I never thought I would experience foster care. Ever. Let alone enjoy my time there as the thought of being away from my mum terrified me. Present day, my brothers and I have been reunited with our mum and are now living together happily and I am still pursuing my hobbies and growing and developing myself further.”
